Discussion on McCain "State" funeral or not.
Is there a need to bring this forward ? or do we care anymore?
I received a reply from those that are in charge of "state" funerals.
The delay was because I directed it to the wrong dept back in January. The new request had a 3 days reply turnaround.

Does this clear up our discussion ? or is it a difference without a distinction?
McCain did not have a "state" funeral. He had a "congressional" funeral. No mention that lying in state in the rotunda is part of there responsibilities.
We do know that permission was needed by the bigshots in congress to allow McCain to lie in state in the Capitol.

Good afternoon:

All serving members of the House and Senate are authorized a congressional funeral in accordance with DoD Instruction 4515.19.

A congressional funeral is a category used by the Department of Defense to describe the type of funeral conducted to honor a sitting congressman or woman. Military ceremonial support is provided, by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, at the church and interment sites. This may include: a joint service body bearer team of nine members representing the five armed forces; a firing party consisting of seven riflemen who will fire three volleys during the interment service; and a bugler who will play “Taps” once the rifle volleys are complete.

For Senator John McCain, the aforementioned military ceremonial support was provided in both Arizona and Washington, D.C. A troop formation consisting of two platoons, a horse-drawn caisson, and a U.S. Navy four-ship flyover was also provided in honor of his service in the U.S. Navy, rank at retirement and time as a pilot. Additionally, military musical support for the family-sponsored funeral at Washington National Cathedral and transportation of his remains, from Arizona to Maryland, via military aircraft was provided at the request of congressional leadership.
