Apparently its worse in girls. When they finally figured out the problem and looked back at the families history..several young girls had died when they reached their teens. My husbands youngest sister is the one who has her blood filtered all the time. She has very little schooling.
It seems quite a lot of people in Iran have Thalassemia. San Francisco has doctors there that really are quite good working with T. patients. The problem is when my SIL returns the doctors here are so far behind they question the California doctors. It really upsets my SIL.
