Personally, I respect the old notions of chivalry and saving the women and children first. I wouldn’t be taking space away from a child. I couldn’t live with that.
However, I wouldn’t be singing while the ship went down either. It might be complete futility, but in my opinion ‘real men’ would be looking for the tool lockup, gathering together the large tables from the dinning hall as well as other larger furnishing or removable sections of the ship, and cobbling together makeshift flotation rafts.
It’s not noble nor is it stoicism to embrace your fate passively.
That is a bit of a red herring as a child still would need a parent to go with them. Unless you were just going to send all the children off by themselves with no parents. But the idea that a woman should be saved at the expense of a man who should automatically decide to sacrifice his own life, is a very misandric way of thinking. And very much what is at play in this video as well, only to a more extreme extent
