I agree. The Cliff Booth character edges Rick Dalton as the real hero of the movie, IMO. Rick is too full of angst and drama. Cliff just gets it done.

Wen you watch the movie the second time, you see how Tarantino presents Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth, as the guy he is. He’s obviously in great shape, used to scrapping as a stunt man, not afraid to say what he feels, quiet confident type...

Then when the situation presents itself, he doesn’t back down.

Yeah, I agree the ending is probably one of the best you’ll ever see, but Cliff Booth’s reaction to having that gun drawn in his face, and his pit bull, is great too.
