One thing is true: Aliens capable of interstellar travel can probably destroy our civilization (race) without breaking a sweat. If they decide that’s what they want to do, we probably can’t do a whole lot about it. So why worry?

IIRC, it was Carl Sagan who postulated IF there is alien life we don't want them to find us for this very reason.

Someone discussing this topic on one of the cable shows said that we have the greatest ET story imaginible right in front of us in the Bible. He is of course right. But the ET of the Bible is resisted because He describes right and wrong and demands fealty. We don’t get to make it all up as we go...bummer...
