And so what if he had a gun. Is that a reason to take a life so freely?

I don’t know the circumstances if his death, so I speak from principle only. If he had the time to comply,he should have dropped whatever was in his hand. It could have been picked up after once his dealings with police were finished.

The supervisor stopped his police vehicle, exited and immediately observed the suspect pointing what he believed to be a handgun at him, according to the police statement. A nearby witness also observed the suspect and believed the item in his hand was a gun as well. An (officer-involved shooting) occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire. He fell to the ground and was then taken into custody without further incident.

A gun, yes, quite possibly.
A bike part, in the big vast majority of cases, nope.

It's that heroic philosophy of "Everyone goes home safe" attitude that is so prevalent in law enforcement circles these days. This of course, does not go for all law enforcement, but there are far too many who have become so risk averse, that they'd rather shoot, than take a chance. Even if he had a gun, how much of a threat was he to officers whom had taken positions of concealed cover? The more I think about it, the more it becomes apparent that so many aspects of modern society have morphed so much, that they present a clear and present danger to the citizenry.
