I really like the idea that all the Android manufacturers have accepted the USB-C as the standard.

It’s not asking that much for Apple to adopt what is/has become the industry standard. I’m all for capitalism but proprietary charging cables is just plain greed.

So don’t buy an Apple product. We don’t need mediocrity imposed across the world by the EU. In America consumers vote with their $ in Europe the bureaucrats decide.

Apple actually contributed much to what became USB-C, but its Thunderbolt-3 version (used on Macs) is faster. The Lightning connector was out several years before there was a USB-C, and Android devices were using Micro-USB, which is not flippable, as Lightning and USB-C cables are.

I do suspect that Apple is holding on to lightning for fear of a world of cheap cables and also non-Apple USB devices could more easily be made to work with Apple iPhones/iPads/iPod Touches. There is definitely greed. There is also a problem with some cheap cables causing fires or damage to the phone. Apple is no White Knight, but there is something to be said for quality control.

Our family has all Samsung devices, including watches, as of Christmas 2019. We all use one charger and all have fresh batteries each morning. The OS is easy to use and all can use our two windows laptops to transfer music and video files via “drag and drop” vs. proprietary Itunes.

My wife was a huge Apple fan until 18 months ago when we officially switched. She’s not into “tech” but she’s never complained for the first time in our married lives and she has said she’d never go back to Apple.

"...but proprietary charging cables is just plain greed."

Apple has ALWAYS been about closed systems and proprietary technology since the first Macintosh. Innovation has ZERO to do with it. "Wintel" has always out-innovated Apple, which is why they were ultimately forced to drop Motorola processors.
