My mother told me when I was a young teen that if she had gotten pregnant again after the three of us, she would have had an abortion.

That strikes a dreadful blow against a child’s sense of security, and for the rest of her reproductive years I feared, and felt a kind of anticipatory grief, that she would abort a brother or sister of mine. And I wondered if my father had fathered an aborted child.

The weakness and the selfishness of these mothers, not only to abort a child, but to lay the burden of that on their daughters and ask for support.

The lies, the willed denying ignorance of that nurse in the article, to claim a nine week fetus has no functioning heart or brain.

Their poor children are suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

The lies, the willed denying ignorance of that nurse in the article, to claim a nine week fetus has no functioning heart or brain.

The fetus develops a brain between 2 and 5 weeks after conception (this is the length of time for the brain to form, not that the brain appears sometime in this timeframe). Differentiated cells--those that have taken their final form--behave according to the type of tissue or organ they form. Thus, differentiated brain cells function as brain cells, gathering information about their environment and responding to it. Our consciousness is a product of this process of information gathering and responding. These facts of fetal development mean that the baby is aware from at least 5 weeks, if not earlier.

In addition, there is the question of how much it feels. Anesthesia has a limited ability to cross biological barriers. Only a fraction of anesthetic in the blood crosses into the brain. The baby, however, has the barrier of the placenta in addition to the blood-brain barrier. This means that it is highly unlikely that any anesthetic administered to the abortion client reaches the baby in a sufficient concentration to render it unconscious. Therefore, it is fully awake and aware during the abortion process--which, as we know, is extremely brutal no matter what method is used.

The knowledge that one's own mother is willing to commit that kind of horror on her baby is a terrible burden for any child. I can certainly understand the fear that would cause. A person who can kill a baby is capable of killing anyone.
