A Kansas man has asked an Iowa judge to let him engage in a sword fight with his ex-wife and her attorney so that he can rend their souls from their bodies.
David Ostrom, 40, of Paola, Kansas, said in a Jan. 3 court filing that his former wife, Bridgette Ostrom, 38, of Harlan, Iowa, and her attorney, Matthew Hudson, had destroyed (him) legally. The Ostroms have been embroiled in disputes over custody and visitation issues and property tax payments.
The judge had the power to let the parties resolve our disputes on the field of battle, legally," David Ostrom said, adding in his filing that trial by combat "has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States."
He also asked the judge for 12 weeks' time so he could secure Japanese samurai swords.

Wait, I saw that Star Trek episode!
But she appointed Kirk as her champion to fight Spock, so no matter who won, she would still have her lover.
Call me crazy, but I get a distinct feeling a restraining order is in this guys future
Women wanted true equality. Since you obviously haven't been in divorce court, where EVERYTHING is loaded in her favor, I can readily understand his desire to chop her into hamburger...
Chivalry does not enter into the equation.
The antics that mothers are able to get away with in the state divorce courts are just unbelievable. After six years of legal wrangling the judge in our case issued a ridiculous ruling that ultimately isnt really being followed by anyone and that had the effect of splitting our kids up. No point in the courts even trying to solve it as the kids will be grown first.
That's what she said, but I always believed she really wanted Kirk. Didn't every other alien female in the galaxy?
Good episode.

“MAN! That headline almost cost me a company keyboard replacement from my Diet Pepsi :D”
Diet Pepsi??!!??
What in the redneck trailer court kind of savage are you?
Even in the old days a person could decline a duel, making it murder for the challenger to kill you. But you’d also have to face the humility of declining the duel.
Charlie: I am challenging you, sir, to a duel.
Lawyer: I accept.
Charlie: I Heh. Are you serious?
Lawyer: Yeah, I accept your challenge.
Charlie:
Do you want time to think it over?
Lawyer: No! No, no, no, not at all. Um, what time were you thinking of dueling?
Charlie: *sigh* Any time is is good, really. I dont hav you dont have time. Because you would have to go out and get a proper gun.
Lawyer: Mmmm, no. I have a gun. I actually keep one right here in the drawer.
Charlie: You got one right ther I dont need to see it.
Lawyer: I like to keep it loaded because you never know whos gonna walk into a law office these days. *laughing*
Charlie: *nervous laughter* Saaaftey first. So. Lets re-think some things. Lets say that now youve learned your lesson. And Ive learned a little lesson. And well call it even and I will respectfully decline the duel.
Lawyer: Heh, well you cant decline.
Charlie: Eh?
Lawyer: As you know, once the duels been accepted
you know, theres no backing out. I mean thats the law.
Charlie:
Yep.
Lawyer: Anyway! Great! This is settled. And I was looking for something to do tomorrow afternoon anyway. So Im gonna pencil you in
Charlie: Dont do it.
Lawyer: for high noon tomorrow.
Charlie: Dont do it.
Lawyer: And uh. Dont worry. Cause, um. Wherever you are
Ill find ya.
Charlie: Yeahhhh.
Lawyer: Im gonna put one right between your teeth, and its just gonna pop out the back of your neck.
Only if he's a good sword fighter.
...on the other hand
and as Spock correctly pointed out, “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting”
"...and I can still hear her complain."
When neither person has God and goodness in their hearts.. it gets ugly.
“He also asked the judge for 12 weeks’ time so he could secure Japanese samurai swords.”
Objection! It is the challenged who gets the choice of weapons, not the challenger.
REAL MEN dont duel women!
Baloney!
I sentence you to watch Kill Bill. Both parts!
It’s not technically a duel, it’s an alternate form of legal adjudication. I assume she initiated the custody proceedings so it’s not like he has a choice whether she’s involved or not if he invokes trial by combat. However, since she’s a woman, she has every right to name a champion to stand in for her in the actual combat.
