I worked nights @ Wards on state street(The old FAIR bldg) (6th floor - operations - data center - IBM Tab machines\IBM 1440\1401 then 360’s)
68 convention protestors were confined to Grant Park. They leaked into downtown...I watched ‘em get chased and whacked when caught.
The convention was miles & miles away south from Grant Park at the International Amphitheater. No way were they ever going to get close.
When MLK got shot, I watched (of what we could see) the west side (Madison ave) go up in flames while not much happened on the South Side.
My understanding was the Blackstone Nation (formerly the Blackstone Rangers) told the cops to stay out of the south side and there would be no trouble the cops stayed out and mostly there wasn’t any trouble.
