I think so-called “Christian Rock” turns more people away. As Hank Hill said, “Can’t you see you’re not making Christianity better, you’re just making rock worse.”
“Yeah, man, like one time I played Black Sabbath at 78 speed, man.”
“Really, Bob, and then what happened?”
“I saw God!”
“You saw God, well, that sounds like true enlightenment to me, Bob.”
-Cheech and Chong
“Time Stand Still”....one of the most beautiful songs musically and lyrically ever written.
Today, the world lost a true giant in the history of rock & roll. An inspiration to millions with an unmistakable sound who spawned generations of musicians (like myself) to pick up two sticks and chase a dream. A kind, thoughtful, brilliant man who ruled our radios and turntables not only with his drumming, but also his beautiful words.
I still vividly remember my first listen of 2112 when I was young. It was the first time I really listened to a drummer. And since that day, music has never been the same. His power, precision, and composition was incomparable. He was called The Professor for a reason: We all learned from him.
Thank you, Neil for making our lives a better place with your music. You will be forever remembered and sorely missed by all of us. And my heartfelt condolences to the Rush family.
God bless Neil Peart.
Taylor Hawkins: Neil Peart had the hands of God. End of story.
Atheists love to celebrate the second verse of Roll the Bones:
Faith is cold as ice
Why are little ones born only to suffer
For the want of immunity or a bowl of rice?
Who would hold the price
On the heads of the innocent children
If theres some immortal power to control the dice?
Neil forgot even third-worlders know how children are made. They make a choice to bring a child into a desperate situation. Its not Gods fault. It is, to quote another of his songs, free will. Its funny how the atheists think that verse is devastating to Christians when it actually exposes a paternalistic view of mostly minority people.
Still, Roll the Bones is a favorite album of mine.
Hank Hill is the bomb.
I think most of those bands are kind of tongue in cheek Satanists. I mean if anyone was actually listening to King Diamond as some sort of satanic “how to method” they were probably huffing helium and glue anyhow.
Freegards
Yeah, that sounds really satanic to me.
Ignorance and wishful thinking are more the devil's work than anything else imaginable.
Actually, completely different logic.
The rhythm in rock music is conducive to heavy subconscious effects on the mind...similar to music used in native religious ceremonies. It is nothing more than a way to open a pathway to insert a message. Some pop and rock artists are well aware of this.
Classical music? As the saying goes...”not so much”.
Rush brings back great memories when I was a kid. I just love music and simply will ignore politics and other peculiar behavior of groups/musicians.
I don’t disagree that Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres and their music in that period was outstanding. It was.
All our talents come from God.
“I think so-called Christian Rock turns more people away. As Hank Hill said, Cant you see youre not making Christianity better, youre just making rock worse.”
In regards to most Christian rock, I agree that it doesn’t always work so well. DC Talk might be the exception. I don’t think that the psalms were intended to be set to a rock beat. The bigger problem for me as a parent is that Christian rock often leads to some of the bad secular stuff.
Tony Iommi (IIRC) described the process by which BS composed their music in Joe Schimmel’s documentary They Sold Their Souls (for rock’n’roll). Anyone interested can check it out.
I believe that overzealous puritans pointing to Satan left and right in rock has had a "boy who cried wolf" effect, whereby Satan can now walk in the open. Led Zeppelin? Maybe Jimmy Page but not everyone else. Iron Maiden? Not really...they're chiefly songs about history. But Slayer? Well..they SAY they aren't Satanist, but c'mon...
...maybe ya wanna think twice about Johnny buying their album?
King Diamond admits to following the Church of Satan, so...well...yeah...prolly wanna avoid them.
Moving Pictures Tour at Madison Square Garden, 5th row.
Paid $50 for a ticket months in advance at an inflated price.
A fortune as a kid at the time.
Neil Peart blew us all away. He was an amazing talent and the core of the band.
God bless and keep him. RIP Neil.
Nothing personal, but anything said by that manipulative charlatan carries little weight with me.
If you choose to follow his version of the gospel, good for you.
See you at final judgement.
Please edify the group on how he is a charlatan, and which version of the Gospel he follows?
Iommi’s words are his own, not Schimmel’s.
And I believe it was Steven Stills who same something to the effect of the purpose of his music is to catch the attention of your children, to change their worldview. It might have been David Crosby, and I am paraphrasing.
I don’t think it has anything to do with overzealous puritans. Look around and see who is winning, what with 60 million abortions and Sodomite whatever (posing as marriage) in vogue. Reality is, whether you like it or not, how we raise the next generation is WAY more important than your vote today.
As to Iron Maiden, the child of a sibling attended a recent concert (against sibling’s wishes, but with his stepfather) of theirs. The opening band was Ghost. Look them up. It doesn’t take a “puritan” to conclude that anyone accepting this filth is not interested in even a neutral position on faith (a “neutral” position which does not exist).
Anyone interested in raising a child properly does not send them off to see that steaming pile of $%^&. Most Satanists don’t admit their allegiance. They are not bound by a standard of honesty, and they want Christian’s buying their product.

“We’re only at home when we’re on the run.” (Great road trip song.)
I don’t know if Peart is the type to have a funeral, but if so, it would have been fitting to have it last Sunday. In European date format: 20-1-12.
