Probably a huge mistake on Volpe’s part to take that Cabinet post. He should’ve stayed put as Governor and ran against Ted the Swimmer in 1970 when he had to defend his vehicular homicide.
Sargent was a bizarre guy. I have some correspondence with him from the ‘90s where he was trying to make light of his wife’s recent illness by employing a rhyme. “The wife had a stroke, and that ain’t a joke !”
