I found myself in the beginning of mailing 60 notices, and at the end of a roll of stamps. After poking around I found an unopened roll of 100 ct Forever stamps, with 2016 on the band securing the stamps, and continued to apply stamps to envelopes ... until I ran out! Again! Apparently the 100ct roll only contained 50! And the backing for the stamps was only about 4 feet long (stamps are 1" wide).
So I gathered up all the contents of the seal around the coil and the entire backing, which had been split off in 4 - 5 sections as the stamps were removed. I applied for relief at the local US Post Office and was denied for the following 'reasoning'. I had removed some stamps from the roll, so I could have just as easily cut the rest (50) off and tried to scam the PO.
In my discussion with the Post Master it was suggested I should have stepped to the side when I purchased the stamps, opened the package, and counted the stamps before leaving. I was also required to show my receipt for the stamps from 2016, which I cannot produce. After all, if you can't trust the USPS, who can you trust? And of course the USPS bar code for the stamps couldn't be used to confirm the purchase.
And it got me thinking. More recently the USPS has contracted out to third parties (NGO!) to produce their stamps. Are contractors shorting their stamp packages without even a concerned interest by local Post Masters?
Any Freepers with similar experience?
I do a fair amount of cooking. I have noticed lately when unwrapping a stick of butter from a large national company, the sticks are not fully formed at the ends. There is a maybe 5% void at each end. Other, less expensive brands are always full, out to the corners. That other company is ripping people off with every pound of butter they sell.
but the little trick that the USPS is doing is selling the forever stamps and then getting persnickity about the size of your cards you mail....you can't send a decent size Christmas card now without paying extra postage....next year it'll be all smaller cards....
You do know that they sell 50 stamp rolls too? Guarantee that is what you bought.
When my daughter got out of college in 2004, while looking for a career job, she worked the night shift as a contracted security guard at the main post office in Philly.
She said, based on the appearance of the employees coming and going through her post, it was a wonder any mail got properly delivered. In addition to being dumb asses, a large percentage were sh*t faced stoned.
My impression was that she meant they looked more like urban welfare recipients than employees, though she didn’t come out and say it that way.
My 90 + year old neighbor was complaining to me one day that she walked faster than the employees at the local post office.

I’ve had the same thing happen at the local Rite Aid Pharmacy, some 3 years ago.
Instead of 30 Rx Schedule 1 (DEA) drugs, I got only 17, went back and raised hell with pharmacist and store mgr. They replaced the missing 13 and the pharmacist disappeared from the store. He’d apparently been “dipping” other Rxs, too, and had other complaints made against him.
...but in order to survive, the malicious depend on the incompetent.
I was denied a job at the USPS because I was a weak little female for such physical work. Wish I’d sued the post master’s pants off.

Yes, I’ve noticed that with butter and tubes of ground beef. The ground beef has pound marks on the label just like butter has tablespoon marks. Both come up short.
I’ve also noticed large food packages hardly ever are the best price per unit these days like they once were. The better price now seems to be the small or medium sized product. But use your own calculator because those store tags on the shelves lie.
When buying, say, fresh carrots, you’ll usually get more weight by buying the 1 lb. packages rather than the 2 lb package. Of course, check the price difference.
After the first couple times I found a couple of broken in half tablets (each counted as one whole) in each bottle of meds, I figured much the same.
Our regular mailman is excellent, but when he goes on vacation it’s amazing the mistakes that are made by the slugs that replace him.
A couple years ago, I was expecting a check for $5,000. It still hasn’t arrived. We had to have it canceled and resent.
We didn't even have anything important to say, we just liked getting one over on the Post Office.

In our smallish subdivision (25 homes, est.) we all keep a list of the other residents’ phone numbers. When we receive wrong mail (every day), we just call the real recipient, tell them what’s on the return address, and find out if it can be thrown away or the want it. It’s life for us.

I noticed that when we re-ordered checks a few months ago, each booklet had two less checks than in the past. Higher cost, fewer checks.
Jello pudding contents weigh less than before.

Try making recipes from the ‘80s calling for some of those ingredients; it doesn’t work well.

I have seen behind the curtain, firsthand, and now have zero doubt they seed comments like these into society so the rubes will repeat them, and be entirely blind to what is running our government. In fact, the exact opposite would be much more appropriate.
Hillary Clinton was, until very recently an esteemed member of our government. They literally murdered Epstein, to cover up a Mossad blackmail operation targeting our leaders, which was covered up by our intelligence services, who told Acosta Epstein was with them. And they did it with two attempts, and had no fear of being exposed. I’ll go even further, and predict at some point it will be revealed a foreign intelligence operation infiltrated much of our society, and was even listening inside the houses of many Freepers, at least a few days per year, during mandatory touchups of incredibly detailed files on them which nobody would believe could exist.
Nobody has any idea how bad it was, and that is in large part due to those stupid statements they disseminated into the populace which sound so good if you don’t think about them.
Within the next three years people will realize they should have attributed it to malice, because Malice was far more common than incompetence.
