The blue-state exodus gains momentum
The Hill ^ | January 10,2020 | MERRILL MATTHEWS

But that trend also highlights a problem: Some of the people fleeing destructive blue-state taxes and regulations appear to drag their pro-big-government philosophy with them — apparently oblivious to the fact those policies destroyed the state they are trying to escape.

One can even see that dynamic occurring in Texas. For a decade or so, liberals have been predicting (not to mention hoping) that Texas’s growing Hispanic population would turn the state from deep red to purple, and perhaps even blue.

In addition, many California families have decided to migrate to Texas simply to find more affordable housing, lower taxes and streets that aren’t rife with homeless people, feces and used drug paraphernalia. And Texas even has a 367-mile-long coast!

But we cannot overstate the significance of the Bureau’s top-line finding: Texas will gain two or three congressional seats after 2020 while California will likely lose one.

That’s a big deal for California, which has never lost a congressional seat. It is a tacit repudiation of California’s over-the-top taxes and policies. Some of the other blue states, like New York and Illinois, have been bleeding people for years.

Several years ago I interviewed the editor of Chief Executive magazine, which conducts an annual CEO survey of the best and worst states to do business. The editor told me the survey had two constants: Texas always comes in as the best state to do business, and California always comes in dead last. Oh, and Florida, which is projected to gain two seats, usually comes in second place.

But there is another factor: Texas has become one of the primary destinations for disaffected Californians, as more and more California businesses have concluded it’s time to go where they will be appreciated.

We’re definitely taking our conservative politics with us.

Not everyone escaping liberal hellholes like NY are spreading the infection.

I would say there’s a number of those, most are migrating because their job moves there. And they’re bringing their women with them. Women are often the vector of the progressive homo-and pervert loving disease

We can only hope that the main of the ones migrating are doing so BECAUSE they are fleeing leftist tyranny; and they DO understand and favor clearer thinking, and will bring less leftism with them.

No. Sadly, this isn't what's happening.

They're liberals selling their homes for fortunes and bringing their values with them.

They always have. I did retail (early 1970’s) right up until I went into IT. In long term marriages, it is something the “non-bread-winner” does to bring in a little extra money. For singles, they have room mates that also work in retail or are otherwise just getting started.

The only way retail is a “long term breadwinner” proposition is if you become a store manager. It’s sad that more young people aren’t made aware of this.

“I’d like to live again in Mr. Liddy’s world. Unfortunately it is self-eliminating. Freedom is in the long run inconsistent with freedom, because it is inevitable exercised in ways that engender control. As a species, we just can’t keep our pants up. But it was nice for a while.”

Too much freedom leads to the destruction of freedom.

Every virtue taken to it’s limit becomes a vice or worse yet an evil.

That is the main difference between a conservative and a libertarian. A libertarian wants unbridled freedom, a conservative wants freedom, too, but constrained by cultural values.

And cultural values are simply those hard learned lessons of dos and don’ts learned through decades and centuries of living together. But because society is not static and neither is “reality” (technological advances) some old lessons just don’t seem to apply anymore and so there is pressure to change them, but it’s all a trial and error business. And so with change we’re stuck muddling around trying to find new rules for living together. In the process often time we throw away rules that we don’t realize are eternal, and we end up having to painfully learn them all over again.

Brings to mind “The Gods of the Copybook Headings” by Kipling.

Yep.

It will not be “fixed” but will only get worse, until Christ’s return.

I kinda look at it like a big neighborhood. When everyone is of the same culture and keeps their lawn mowed, it looks very nice. But as, one by one, residents stop mowing their lawns, it can get to the point where someone wants to pass a law requiring it. But the solution is never force. The solution is to motivate to do the right thing. But people need to be motivated both through those they respect as well as experience. When both start deteriorating, the culture deteriorates.

God seems to know what he’s doing. In the long run. It is almost as if life is a test, to prove to us the pointlessness of trusting mankind to get it right on our own.

"Seem" to? What kind of meds is the author on?

These blue state enablers are the bane of civilization. And civilized states are too stupid to realize what it's doing to us in the long run.

My wife stands to inherit 200 acres of farm land in a town I'd never live in. But now............

The census and ultimately the redistricting is going to be ugly!!!!! I predict that some states won’t be solved by the next census.

When I moved from Connecticut to Florida, the local Republican Party thought I was a liberal, but I'm more conservative than some of the Republican on the County government.

I believe young folks will be conservative. Don't trust the media saying youth are liberal, liberals are killing their kids with abortions, we are teaching ours to listen and think for themselves...
