Before phones the yutes had hand-held video games, Legos, thinking about Legos, Playmobile (If European) action figures,Barbies, Lincoln logs, dolls, knight-puppets, figures based on the Hortus Deliciarum, ceramic figurines based on Bible stories/historical figures, anything with wheels, etc... during dinner/eating out.
Heck, in the early 1980's, current CEO/Board Members of tech giants were writing thousands of lines of code just to play on a game on the Commodore 64.
The problem lies in materialistic/secular/hedonistic hounding by adults who are apathetic to sin. Broken homes/destruction of family in favor of vain pursuits have more influence over the destruction of society than technological tools.

Except all the scientific research is showing that physically playing with, say, Legos or action figures is vastly different than watching a screen which generates a dopamine reward.
In fact, “old time” television was far less destructive than modern phones/pads/video games according to the research.
