That makes no sense to me. As far as I know every other call about where the ball carrier is depends on where his front foot is, not his back foot. Stupid and convoluted IMO.

It’s because you guys don’t know the rules...that’s why what the announcers are saying don’t make sense. It’s been the rule for a very long time that as long as any part of your body is at the line of scrimmage when you release the ball it’s a legal pass. Mahomes foot was clearly at the 5 yard line when he released the ball.
Now-does the rule make sense-not really-but that’s the rule and it’s been the rule for many many years and anyone who watches football knows it.
