Take it to a local computer shop

Not to discourage anyone but the last time I did that, I learned my local computer shop owner was far too interested in my personal information. He started exploring my photos before I even left the shop.

Moral of the story, make sure you can trust the local computer shop.

Aside: I hate Windows 10. Got a new laptop with every bell and whistle imaginable, and that infernal Windows 10. Next time I'll just overpay for a Mac.

Meh, my comp was brand new, no sensitive information to be had or found so was not exactly worried about anything personal being delved into, etc.

“Next time I’ll just overpay for a Mac.”

I use Macs and install a disk builder of W 8.1 and install it via Parallels software...

What this means is INSIDE of my Mac(s) is a fully functioning Windows 8.1 (I also have a W 7) PC.

Best of both world and don’t forget to TURN OFF UPDATES.

Best!

“He started exploring my photos before I even left the shop.”

The problem with storing photos, financial and other user sensitive information is once in someone else’s hands it’s all subject to compromise. I had a terabyte external hard drive fail that backed up all my data from two decades back. The hard drive was still in warranty. I chose to just throw it away as sending it to the manufacture for work would enable them to see my entire life, photos, financial and other.
