Hi CB,

I’m in the Fort Bragg, Mendocino area which is south of Crescent City and Eureka. It does take some people a while to get used to the weather, but once one does it’s very difficult to go back to the extreme temperatures inland especially in the summer.

As far as crops, unfortunately I’m not the best person to ask, but I do know there is a fairly wide range of vegetables that can be grown. Maybe not as much right here on the coast but you can go 5 miles inland and actually do quite well.

As far as what grows in our area, it’s limited, but probably more than you would think. My neighbor has a garden and has grown the following: almost any root vegetable, lettuce, kale, squash beans, peas, blueberries strawberries, cherry tomatoes, zucchini etc...

There are more things that I know I’m forgetting, but this will give you an idea.

Beautiful area there. I heard the best crop is marijuana.

Sounds like everything needed can be grown there. And I forget about greenhouses! A greenhouse would collect the Heat and warm up those little plants just fine.

Every now and then I wonder what it would have been like if we moved somewhere else. Especially when I paid outrageous prices for salmon. Hubby could just go fishing and bring home some. And Hiking among the Redwoods would be marvellous!
