Truthfully, not so much. The homeschooling issue seems to be different depending on which area of PA you live - if you’re in a major metro area such as Philly (city of my birth), Harrisburgh or Allegheny county (Pittsburgh and surrounding) they have a much stronger teachers union presence and will fight like hell for each source of income.
I believe you are wrong in two parts; it does immeasurable good by keeping 4 more children out of the hands of said marxists and deprives them of the revenue stream. Secondly, there is NO yay for me - no self-aggrandizement was sought or received - this was an effort to help my children and do my part.
That's just as true in central PA where I was. Maybe more so! In big cities there are other ways to skim the cream off. Small communities are impacted worse when deprived of even one little cash calf. In my case they DID fight like hell.
I was home schooled since the beginning and just went to the local school for some exams; always aced out the students there. The school rolled my test scores into theirs making them look better and WA does that state wide. If it weren’t for home schooling the states scores would be near the bottom.
True. And there's a third factor. Public ed is an aspect of our culture now, a symbol of our enlightenment. It's "free" and every child has a right to it.
But in fact it's a welfare program and it's dishing out government-grade cheese. For at least six hours a day, for twelve formative years. And that will never change. Because there will always be people too poor to provide better alternatives for their kids. (Why are they poor? Sometimes...just sometimes, mind you...because they're illiterate due to the self-perpetuating public education racket.)
Substandard. It's what welfare does. When parents start thinking of public ed as welfare, and its handouts as junk, they will turn from it if they value learning. There is no changing it. The majority of recipients don't WANT to change it, and majority rules here.
Sorry to hear that. Somehow we escaped the notice of the Totalitarian Overlords of the teachers unions here in western PA - no big city, no rural enclave. Went about our lives avoiding their clutches during the school years.
Homeschool is what we need - and we need to get elected to our local school board...
Really, castrate gays? Did a gay rape you when you were young? I have gay friends (my office is in a building that is owned by a gay. He is a dad and his partner is a great stay at home spouse. His ex wife was a nut). I had a cousin who killed himself because of bullying because he was gay. You know that gays are more conservative than heterosexuals?
As I tell my kids - don’t ever hate anyone and you shouldn’t hate. Me, do I judge my landlords actions, no, I go what is said in Matthew 7 Don’t Judge...I don’t...
We can, but parents would rather be doing other things than take time and campaign for school board. Oh, it takes away from golfing, or having a beer or bowling. I ran for school board in my hometown at 17, because even then, it was bad. I lost, but I only lost by 29 votes (the top 7 - 4 of the majority party, 3 of the minority party and I was 29 votes behind). In Hillsborough County, the school board is non-partisan.
I think they’re winning unfortunately.
Yup. Destroy morality, destroy the family, neuter men.
The Catholic schools of the ‘60’s I attended are long gone. The Left made sure of that. As far as the government schools all I can say is chasing God out of the classroom didn’t usher in the age of reason.
Agreed,
