In the '40s & '50s. we had a vitamin supplement in a brown glass jar, but I remember it as something more like a "souped-up molasses" -- dark brown, very thick & sweet. For some reason, the name,
"Multicebrin" comes to mind...

"Metrecal" may be it. I remember taking both
"Metrecal" and
"Multicebrin" -- but, I don't recall what name matched the dark brown stuff...

I think that you are onto something. Dark brown, thick and sweet. I thought it started with an “M”...

It was in a brown jar with a wide lid for scooping it out of the jar. I also remember that it was kept in the refrigerator and tasted good enough to be a bedtime treat.
