I am a non- smoker and my lungs were excellent until a few years ago ,when I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
My lungs are like those of a heavy lifetime smoker, and no reason to be like that, so they call it Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis(IPF).
I have been on Esbriet the last few years. -Tom
“”they call it Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis(IPF).””
Now that is interesting. Idiopathic meaning - no known cause, right? It must really puzzle the medical profession and of course, yourself. Nothing to explain that diagnosis. Nothing in your life working with certain materials etc.,? And you didn’t even have the pleasure of smoking - and I will admit those years were pleasurable with friends/relatives playing cards, coffee breaks at work etc. I think those coffee breaks were the reason I took up smoking to begin with - because everyone else was smoking. At least that’s what I told myself - but hey, I could get away with it as I didn’t start until my mid 20’s....
You take care....
Prayers for you Capt. Tom.
And they docs had no idea of a cause? I quit 3 packs a day cold turkey about 15 years ago. Best thing I've ever done for myself. What pissed me off is that I continued smoking for years because I kept hearing how quitting was like withdrawing from herion. Who the hell wants to go through that?
Easiest thing I've ever done.
My Dad started smoking when he was 14. he quit after a heart attack in 1998. We both worked at the airport where fumes and exhaust were very prevelant. He was diagnosed in 2014 with Pulmonary fibrosis and his health and lifestyle deteriorated on a weekly basis. it was horrible. he passed away Nov 2017 and yet he wished he would have stuck with a cigar and a shot of booze once a day instead. I have also been diagnosed with COPD and asthma and told the PF is not far off the horizon with everything I have gone through the last 50+ yrs, and I stuck with the occasional cigar and shot every once in a great while.
