CNN Pays 58 Airports $100,000 Each to Play Channel at Gates

Tucker Carlson Tonight reported CNN is spending millions of dollars to have their channel played at fifty-eight airports across the United States.

As Carlson explained, CNN is paying the airports approximately $100,000 each to “pump propaganda into America’s airports, holding its hapless travelers hostage.”

He commented: “It’s not something [the airports] would do willingly. Who would? Nobody watches [CNN] – it’s garbage.”

“This service is likely costing CNN six million dollars a year,” Carlson explained. “But they do it anyway because what’s the value of propaganda?”

Carlson was joined by author and commentator Mark Steyn to further discuss the topic.

“They pay over six millions dollars to bother people, to hector people in airports,” Steyn said. He suggested, “You know for six millions dollars they could actually afford to buy Murder She Wrote reruns…and they might actually have a sporting chance at some ratings.”

“I was at LAX yesterday while the anchors were talking about what a sad, somber, solemn, sorrowful day it is,” Steyn continued. “And people did look sad, somber, sorrowful, and solemn – but that was because they had been stuck at gate 59 watching Wolf Blitzer for four hours.”

Yes. Even if libs run airports, not accepting the highest bid would attract a lot of unwanted attention.

Here’s the CNN Airport sales pitch:

I’m just saying running all ads all the time would produce a lot more money for airports.

Maybe there’s a compromise... Airports could run 10 minutes of ads an hour AND they would still make MORE money a year than they make with CNN...

Companies could pay them directly.

So how does that feel? Fifty minutes of nothing and 10 minutes of ads? Or 50 minutes of ‘weather channel’ and 10 minutes of ads every hour?

I’m just sick of CNN being forced on people. Without the airport scam CNN would go under in the US... Which would be a blessing for all of us.

Fox was at every Southwest terminal I’ve been in. Didn’t pay attention when I flew 2 weeks ago

They’re not in it to make money, but to propagandize.

Here’s my back-of-the-envelope calculation:

About 100 million passengers pass through O’Hare airport each year. Unless I’ve botched the math (been known to happen), $100,000 divided by 100 million comes out to one-tenth of a cent per passenger. Now I’d gladly pay an additional tenth of a penny per ticket not to have to listen to those annoying shills every time I walk through a terminal at ORD. Heck, I’d pay ten times that amount - and the airport would end up with a million bucks per year rather than a lousy hundred grand.

Just add it to all the other bogus fees on the ticket - call it the propaganda avoidance charge.

most prisons subscribe to basic cable. Some have the inmates pay collectively from canteen profits or even individually down to the cells.

I was in Graterford prison in PN circa 1992, the part built in the 1920s. There is a plumbers chase under the living units where maintenance crews could walk. They were running cable to the cells. The inmates paid 9.98 month for basic cable or they could go to the dayroom and watch with other inmates.

Aren’t airports owned by the federal government? I don’t see how this could not easily be changed if this is the case.

CNN>>>Its also where most if not all of Europe gets the news about America.

I live in Spain and Fox News is on my cable company lineup as well as CNN International. Fox News was there first then CNN replaced the BBC this year, probably over licensing fee issues.

Fox News is now available in many countries throughout europe and the world. Here is a list of countries where you can watch it

“...50 minutes of ‘weather channel’...

Pass. That’d equal ~25 references to “climate change”.

I’ll bet there’s a clause that those airports cannot show anything else at the gates.

I’ll bet CNN counts those TVs in their viewer numbers.

I think CNN has a medical building program, too...

Captive audiences...this stinks from top to bottom.
