I’ve been massively into genealogy since 1999. I deal with the sheer numbers of the ancestors and uncles/aunts that I research by dropping all the greatx’s in most conversations for simplicity. Makes life far less complicated for me, and totally confusing for everyone else. In fact, Chancellor John Lansing is brother of 4th great grandfather, Colonel Gerrit G (G, yes, for Gerrit) Lansing and Gilbert Livingston is brother of 5th great grandfather, Major Henry Livingston, Jr., real author of Night Before Christmas.
You might enjoy the scan I made of a treatise by Gilbert and Henry’s brother on not marrying your widowed sister-in-law or brother-in-law. He was a Dutch Reformed theologian who brought the Dutch and American branches of the church back together. The other sermons and books I have of his are linked at the bottom of the page. For Gilbert, all I could find was a 1802 book on what to medically do with your electricity after you’ve captured it with your lightning rod. I scanned that one, too.
