A nuclear attack would most likely target one of these 6 US cities — but experts say none of them are prepared

A nuclear attack on US soil would most likely target one of six cities: New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.

But public-health experts say any of those cities would struggle to provide emergency services to the wounded.

The cities also no longer have designated fallout shelters to protect people from radiation.

Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

The chance that a nuclear bomb would strike a US city is slim, but nuclear experts say it's not out of the question.

A nuclear attack in a large metropolitan area is one of the 15 disaster scenarios for which the US Federal Emergency Management Agency has an emergency strategy. The agency's plan involves deploying first responders, providing immediate shelter for evacuees, and decontaminating victims who have been exposed to radiation.

I don’t live there. If you live there it will suck if it happens.
Most blasts would only take out a square mile and then another mile or two around that would be problematic. After that the nation will rally, send help and reconstruct. It won’t be the end of the world. It will be for you, but the country will carry on and retribution will be doled out accordingly.

With this group of Politicians we have ‘ruling’ us, no country with a lick of sense would hit DC.

If ‘they’ were to get wiped out, people may vote ones in that may actually do something.

Also, ANOTHER good reason why PDJT should do everything possible to move the Government Offices to where they can do good and properly assist their charges.

Having people on a ‘Farm Bureau’ who don’t know a farm from a gas station is not one of our finest moments.

If they hit Detroit, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

You haven't visited the increasing outgrowing downtown hub of the city recently have you?

Of course there's decay in this old city but all the abandoned houses are being torn down and the vacant lots surrounding the ever expanding downtown area are being bought up by savvy investor's.

You have no idea of what the downtown area has to offer in terms of restaurants, bars, upscale stores, offices, apartments, lofts and new condominiums.........

Before you throw your crap at Detroit you might want to visit it.......

I always thought the military sites would be the first to go.

Maybe with better warning systems and stuff all of our nukes will be in the air the same time as the Russians or China’s so they target the cities now.

I would put the muslims higher up on the source of a nuke though today. Smuggle it in, drive the van downtown and “boom”.

[. Smuggle it in, drive the van downtown and “boom”.]

I think it will be:

1) A ship or boat that sails into a harbor

2) A smaller (not small) or medium-sized plane that can carry the load.

I get the impression that some folks here think everyone is basically effd. Not so. There are quite a number of things one can do. There are ways to prepare food, water and your house to deal with the fallout while you wait for it to dissipate. One can prebuild or simply know what must be on hand to afford needed protection. Go do some research.

I was in Port Arthur, TX in the 50s. With our proximity to Houston and surrounded by refineries we had those, under the desk, drills. I still have the dog tag I was issued with my blood type.

And...most of the mid west and Colorado, Arizona and Southern New Mexico and Texas would be glowing.

Military bases would still be on the list. So...no support locations either.

Absolutely true...

Tooling was moved to Egypt to mass produce the M1A1 Abrams, as well as the turbine engines.

Actually, going down into the weeds and chasing rabots a bit, since 2013/2014 the Russians have been using a well tooled version of the same turbine engine in thousands of highly upgraded versions of previously mothballed T-60 series/variations up to T-80 series/variations tanks. Some of the tanks are completely remotely automated, and can lethally fire at speeds of about 60mph. In the last 6 months, there may be as many as 3000 of these along the border of Ukraine, and near the line of contact (LOC) in the eastern Ukrainian energy rich Donbas region, and Crimea along the southern border of Ukraine. They are often parked near large, Russian controlled, Ukrainian coal and gas deposits/trends and drilling and mining operations.

Russia took big Ukrainian gas production, and is forcing Kiev to buy it back at high prices, as well as keeping Ukraine from selling it to Europe.

Russia also stopped big U.S. energy companies from developing very large Ukrainian Black Sea amd Donets region deposites, and is now going after it themselves.
