Two Canadian men were fired from their jobs after one of them used the word Eskimo in a private conversation.
The two men were boarding a flight from Labrador to Newfoundland when Dave Beck said the word Eskimo.
His friend Thomas Scott responded by asking, Can you smell him?
The conversation was overheard by by Innu Nation member and former Labrador MP Peter Penashue and other passengers.
Beck and Scott, who worked primarily as plasterers and painters, had been working on a hotel renovation project overseen by Kankote Enterprises.
In spite of several years on the job, and being the only two Kankote employees at the remote Churchill falls, both men were fired and had their names dragged through mud reducing future job prospects, reports National File.
Beck pleaded for forgiveness in an extremely pathetic manner.
I know thats no excuse for the remarks I made, my words that hurt so many people, especially Indigenous people. Im not a racist. I would say culturally uneducated. Culturally illiterate, he told CBC.
Perhaps if the two had just blacked up like their Prime Minister instead of using a naughty word, they wouldnt have got into so much trouble.

I’m not a sports fan, so maybe I just don’t get it. But it seems to me having a team named after you is always a compliment. You never hear of a team named the Weasels, the Wimps, or the Jerks. Teams pick names that are positive, honoring a group for their fierceness, honor, or pluck.
I was annoyed by this, although the response of “can you smell him” clearly was not meant as a neutral commentary.
Please don't tell me that Jody calls have been PC'd.
Are there any Grizzlies in Tennessee?
I thought the song was by Manfred Mann
No, but there are a lot of bears, if you know what I mean.
Thanks to Frank Zappa I have learned to always watch out where the Huskies go.
It was a hit for Manfred Mann, but it was written by Bob Dylan.
Apparently Manfred Mann has a habit of doing that.
Blinded by the Light was an atrociously awful Springsteen song. (as is pretty much all Springsteen music IMHO) Mann made it a classic hit.
