I thought Star Wars Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, was supposed to be the end of the series.

What assurances do we have that this new offering, Star Wars Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker, is truly the end of our misery?

I mean, Disney can still crank out an Episode 10 in a decade or so, and call it "The Fall of Skywalker..."

“I thought Star Wars Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, was supposed to be the end of the series.”

It is three trilogies, one for each generation of the Skywalker family.

They started with the middle trilogy, about Luke and Leia’s main story. Then they went back and did a trilogy about the earlier life of Anakin Skywalker, becoming Darth Vader. Finally, there is this trilogy, about the generation after Luke and Leia.

That is how George Lucas initially envisioned it, and this will be the last of those nine films.
