After a few false alarms and even a 13-year trip to Los Angeles, the Raiders are finally saying farewell to Oakland. For good ... assuming no delays with the stadium in Las Vegas, of course. Sunday will mark the end of an era. The Raiders will play their final home game in Oakland. They finish this season with two road games and then theyll move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. The Raiders moved into the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Sept. 18. 1966, after spending their first few seasons bouncing around a few stadiums. Four months after the Raiders started playing in the Coliseum, the first Super Bowl was played.

Thankfully the last of the dual use stadiums although the A's are stuck playing there for awhile. I went to a baseball game there. It was an absolute dump and soulless. Just like about everything else that came out of the 60s, multipurpose stadiums were a big ugly mole on the American sports landscape.

That was the stadium of my childhood. Used to go all the time to watch the As and Raiders.

Good, now we should turn the stadium in to one Giant Homeless Shelter for California. Start bussing the vagrants to Oakland Sanctuary Homeless Coliseum.

It was designed after Dodger Stadium.Couldn’t go wrong there but enclosing it eliminated the view.

Mt Davis was the final nail in the colesium’s coffin. I enjoyed the A’s games there until then.

As a kid I frequented the old Yankee Stadium. The stadium itself didn’t bother me as opposed to the trip to the South Bronx.

My wife was once a guide for a large group of teen Canadian girls on a US trip. They went in a bus to Yankee Stadium, and when the game was over, they found the fuel was siphoned out. Fun.

Probably the most famous moment was Stabler, while going to the ground, flipping the ball to Clarence Davis in the 75 playoffs to beat the Dolphins.

Overheard at a Raider game: Hey, there’s June Bug on the big screen...when did he get out of jail?

Sadly, gang bangers wore Raider’s jackets as a symbol of thug support, even here in Denver.

I went to a Raider game at the Coliseum and the place was an outdated, filthy dump.
Did I mention that was in 1980?

The most famous game played in that stadium was undoubtedly the
Heidi Game of November, 1968 in which Oakland scored two touchdowns in nine seconds to beat the New York Jets 43-32. However, those in the East who were watching the game on TV missed the game's dramatic ending because in the final minutes of the game, the network went ahead with its scheduled showing of a movie called "Heidi," which generated millions of angry calls from football fans.
Watching the game in California over our new color TV, I saw the game through to its conclusion, and being an Oakland fan at the time, I was pleased.

If the stadium is anything like their airport then forget it. I changed planes in Oakland years ago and the first thing I noticed was the smell. The bathrooms were filthy. I’ll never go through that place again. Hopefully.

Before the Raiders came back in the mid-90s and built a huge and unnecessary new section of seats, the Coliseum offered very nice views of the hills - it was a good place to watch a baseball or football game and both the A's and the Raiders made sure there was a lot of winning going on down on the field during the '70s. You'd go to an A's game or a Raiders game and compare it to the cold and windswept hell over at Candlestick and there was never any question that Oakland was a better place to watch a game.
