Ummm...no. He did something that he thought was funny in the spirit of what was happening with the event. In RETROSPECT it was a mistake because the reporter couldn't take a joke. For THAT he's being lynched.

Let me add...the reporter COULD have found him privately and told him privately that she didn’t appreciate it and ask that he apologize. But she went full ape on him and never gave him the chance to make up for it.
