This is the crux of the whole issue. The people are too stupid, greedy, and capitalist to manage their own affairs, so government must step in with an iron boot in order to save the planet from them. Global warming (excuse me, climate change) is just an excuse for bigger and bigger government eventually leading to world wide fascism.

True, but the funny part to me is, even if the threat was real, and we give government all the power, the government wouldn’t stop using fossil fuels or anything. Nobody in history has ever just stopped using the most peak efficiency technology and gone back to something less effective, because that’s a recipe for destruction. We’re never going back to horses deliveries groceries and sailing ships ferrying us across the ocean. If we did, China or Russia would just conquer us and we’d be back to using fossil fuels, just in slavery to them.
