Another way to look at it is, ‘the best way to stop being hunted is to show those who would kill you that you will lie for them’.
To remain safe she would have to simply issue all the information she has all at once. It does not profit a miscreant to murder an information source once the information is revealed. Killing the rat after the deed only complicates things for the ones ratted out. By announcing her intentions, unless there is some prior deal with some of her former clients she is in maximum danger now that she has announced her intention to go public. Bodyguards, too, can be bought off with a high enough price. But she is a smart woman and I suspect here a prior deal to obfuscate and misdirect.
