Lane Kiffin is back in the SEC, taking over at Ole Miss. Kiffin and the Rebels made the announcement Saturday after Florida Atlantic defeated UAB in the Conference USA championship game, the Owls' second league title in his three seasons. It had been college football's worst-kept secret since Friday, and the schools ended all doubt Saturday afternoon by conceding that the deal has been made. ''I am truly honored and humbled to join the Ole Miss family, and recognize this as a special opportunity to lead Rebel Football into the future,'' said Kiffin, who will be introduced in Oxford, Mississippi on Monday.

I hope FAU new coach will be as successful as Lane was.

Good luck to Ole Miss. Kiffin is not lacking in football smarts - he’s lacking in maturity, and that’s not a by-product of his age. Guys younger than him, like Sean McVay, are coaching NFL teams to success without the drama that comes from having a childish, entitled loud-mouth as their head coach. The Raiders, Tennessee, Southern Cal, Alabama - he’s had a lot of opportunities to grow up, and each time you think he might have...nope.

Yup...a definite climber. But he is learning how to function. Pure boiler plate coaching.

Lane wants a shot at Saban via a school willing to shell out some $$$ in order to make it happen. Is he married?

Excerpt - appears he’s “seen the light”....

He acknowledged he was too young to handle the job when the Oakland Raiders made him a head coach at 31, or when he got hired at Tennessee at 32, or when he got hired at USC at 34.

He’s 44 now. He’s apparently learned to live in the public eye, or at least how to deal with constant scrutiny.

Kiffin said the FAU players changed him.

‘’They’ve done a great job and they’ve helped me,’’ Kiffin said. ‘’They’ve kind of taught me. I was used to all players thinking they were going to the NFL and your job is to get the players drafted the highest that you can.

This place changed me to realize, I’ve got a bigger calling than that. My calling is to really help these kids develop.’’

What a mistake - Lane is not a good fit at all - this will not end well for Ole Miss.

By abandoning them before they play in the bowl they’ve worked so hard all year to earn a trip to.

Nice!

FYI...

Kiffin did coach FAU to two league Championships in three years - not too shabby for a perennial losing program that will leave a VERY positive impact on all players that went thru his program.

Coaches leaving after winning their league championship is not unusual.

Brian Kelly left CMU before their bowl game to become head coach at UofCincinnati.

Brian Kelly left UofCincinnati (ranked #3 at the time) before their Sugar Bowl game to become head coach at Notre Dame.

Your snarky reply which lacks in intellectual substance is duly noted...

He’s probably the best offensive coordinater out there but he’s never been a good head coach. He doesn’t care about defense at all.

Plus Lane can’t keep his hands off of the Cheerleaders - read about his divorce. He was married to a beautiful women - had 3 kids - gave it all up to chase co-eds.
