I saw the Peloton ad once. Don’t know what the fuss was. She wants to exercise, tone her body and lose some uncomfortable fat. What is the big deal?

The Gin commercial

Implication is she just left a controlling abuser (”You’re safe here now”, “To new beginnings”). Feminists seem to think the only reason a woman would want to stay in shape is because she’s afraid of her husband’s reaction to her getting fat.

The Peloton ad reflects that staying married to your original spouse is the new "status symbol" for the white middle class and along with this, maintaining your shape.

A lot of people are offended by this, and the concept of getting and staying married altogether as "cisheteronormative" or whatever gobbledygook. The anger out there towards this ad reflects an underlying anger towards happy, healthy "straight, white" marriages.

I think a lot of the backlash is due to the popularity of “body positivity,” which is all about obese people celebrating their obesity. They don’t want to have to diet or exercise, the way thin people do to maintain their health. So, heaven forbid an ad that appeals to health-conscious people!

Soviet aircrews in remote military bases used to drink the alcohol that was used as a de-icing agent on their planes.

Social Media is now the ‘Opiate of the Masses’ now.
