They pay the market rate for that skill level. If that’s not enough, improve your skills, or decrease expenses. Minimum wage is supposed to be for students needing pocket money, not for supporting a family.

And if you’re not making enough to support kids, then don’t have kids.

And they pick a woman employee to try to really,tug on your emotions.

Women are never told to reign in spending/decrease their liabilities or improve their skills. Men have had to live within their means for years because there’s less than zero sympathy from any area of society for a guy who’s having a hard time. They tell him to get more skills to get a better job, and cut unnecessary expenses. Since women buy so much worthless and useless crap and are impulsive, emotional spenders, buying stuff because they feel bad, or up, or are revenge buying because someone else got something and they deserve something too, and all the businesses all gear advertising towards the impulse buyers, yeah, I see how a woman who makes $15/hr is living in her car at disney.
