I am really sorry about your friend. That is the nightmare we all fear.
I guess “some people” tried to take their football rivalry off the field.
Has the NRA been blamed yet?
... That is the nightmare we all fear.
Yes, that is true
There is more to the story... but that is not a story for today
Grambling.. 30
Southern..... 28
Just looked at Google maps. Almost none of Canal St is in the quarter. Actually none of it is “IN” the quarter, a small portion of it “BORDERS” the quarter.
The very low numbers 40s etc. border the quarter, NOT the 700s.
Been to New Orleans once. Hated every minute there. A city I will never visit again by choice. OVERRATED.
FAKE headline! It’s “sexier” if it says it was in “the quarter” even if it was.
First line in the story:
“NEW ORLEANS New Orleans police say 11 people were shot in an early morning shooting on the edge of the citys famed French Quarter.”
“on the EDGE” What is the matter with “accuracy”?
My grandmother lived in New Orleans, managed The Columns, a sweet little hotel that was once a Southern mansion out on St. Charles. We visited her every year at Easter time. I was 11 when I begged to be allowed to walk around the French Quarter on my own and they finally let me. It was safe then and incredibly charming.
Earlier this year, my daughter, SIL (a LEO) and I visited Houston to see my sister. I lobbied to add an additional day to see NOLA, but couldn’t talk them into it. And, of course, they were right to stay away.
So very very sad.
This description reminds me of the movie, "Absence of Malice" where the blonde bimbo reporterette was explaining the definition of a shark sighting.
"If it swims onto the beach, walks up the beach, and bites a cop, it is a shark attack, otherwise, it's a fish swimming in the water off shore".
Canal street with streetcar tracks???
That will pin it down.
Multiple were picked up at a "place with no name" on a busy commercial block on Canal Street.
No reporter cover here.
Shark, shark, shark, OK, just a fish, nothing to see here.
One of them was Charity Hospital.
If the Presideht (or any other visiting dignitary) were shot, they’d take him to Charity Hospital...they get so many of them.
But it is closer to the Superdome.
That's the block between Bourbon and Royal... hard to get more French Quartery than Bourbon. Canal separates the FQ from the CBD, so I suppose it depends on what side of the street the shooting took place.
You mean they weren’t celebrating LSU annihilating Texas A&M?
Canal separates the French Quarter and the Central Business District. The 700 block is between Bourbon and Royal.
I used to have a place in the Quarter a block and a half from what would be the 400 block of Canal. (Between Decatur and N. Peters)
Anyone riding the street cars to and from bourbon st get on and off at this location this is tourist central that’s why its a big deal. I will be staying at the hotel Pelham tomorrow night till Friday. This is the 8th time I will be in New Orleans since July I am in the oil industry helicopter access to the rigs is via New Orleans. The media is dancing around the real issue this was a bunch of not local thugs in town for the game between thug teams there’s so many cops in the quarter the hooligans stay at the edges as is evident by this garbage. The shooter is already back to what ever slum they slithered out of by now.The food can’t be beat and hot young women with little inhibition everywhere married, boyfriends or not they don’t care it’s like Vegas they will lie when they get home.
Oh man. If you could see my text messages, you’d see I wrote nearly the same thing about the out of town thugs coming in for games.
