Okie dokie - I don’t have to ask!! :-)

I’ll have to check out ebay - go there only rarely & certainly never thought to look for cross stitch patterns (learn something new every day!).

Thanks - you can really see the detail on the ebay pic that wasn’t so apparent on my photo of the card.

She likes the Sue Hillis patterns and they are nice. Don’t get me wrong -it’s all in the execution and she does beautiful work especially for a senior who has had surgeries on her hands.https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/648854457/a-christmas-wish-cross-stitch-pattern

I really love the tradition of doing a cross stitch piece & then making a card out of it. The card this year was a surprise since they’ve moved to “the home” as they call it. She’s going to get a letter from me this year about her Christmas cards ... how much I enjoy them.

Knitting .... after mostly crocheting for years, I’m working on improving my knitting (taught myself to knit as a teenager, but bad hand positions/habits, etc. works against me). I find that knitters tend to have one thing they love to knit: socks are a ‘biggy’, sweaters is another.

My ‘biggy’ is fingerless mittens. I’m pretty obsessed with them. I have an “easy” pattern from Bhooked that I like, but it has a ‘thumb’ that you have to add after the main mitten is finished. It also calls for “chunky” yarn.

So, how about a pattern with a ‘gusset’ rather than a thumb & using 4 medium yarn? I found one!! We have a group that knits for charity & they posted that they need fingerless mittens for dialysis patients & posted a pattern for people to use. It uses #4 yarn, has a thumb ‘gusset’ and unlike all the other patterns I have, it knits from the top down to the cuff, which is “interesting” and I find that I like it.

Yesterday, it was rainy & cold here so no outdoor work was possible & the house had a MAJOR cleaning for a luncheon that happened last week which means NO ‘you-should-be-cleaning-instead-of-knitting’ guilt! I knitted two of the fingerless mittens per the ‘From the Heart’ pattern. That is a real improvement for me to knit two mittens in one day. They fit my hand nicely and I’m going to make some more for Christmas gifts with this pattern. There is a picture of the mitten on the pattern ... if you don’t like the long ribbed cuff, you can knit a few rows more after the gusset is finished before starting the 2x2 ribbing for the cuff & then just don’t do as many rows of ribbing.

This pattern is ‘easy’ enough that after two mittens, I pretty much have it memorized overall - you do need to keep a row count.

BTW, I used #8 circular needles rather than the 7 called for in the pattern - mittens turned out great. A 7 is 4.5 mm, 8 is 5.0 mm so I didn’t think it was enough difference to make a significant difference in the mitten.

The yarn used yesterday was ‘I Love This Yarn’ & the knitting needle size listed on the yarn is #8, so that was another reason I figured an 8 would work ok.

This is SO sweet .... he's 109!!!

Australia’s Oldest Man Knits Tiny Sweaters For Injured Penguins

How long does it take to master a craft? How about 80 years? Because 109-year-old Australian Alfred Date has been knitting since the 1930s and his latest/most famous endeavor was making mini sweaters… for endangered penguins!

Back in 2013, Victoria’s Phillip Island Penguin Foundation asked for volunteers to make sweaters for the rare “little penguins.” Alfie, who has yet to learn to say no, pitched in. Knitted penguin jumpers play an important role in saving little penguins affected by oil pollution.

Father to 7, grandparent to 20, he’s not only been an active knitter, but also a sportsman, having played golf till his 90’s.

His secret for longevity? “Waking up every morning”. See, he’s a joker, too!

I have quite a stash of fabric, so I've decided to sew up some hot pads to take to Beau's family on Christmas Eve. Lots of younger nieces who are just setting up housekeeping! I'll still bring the crocheted cotton dish cloths, but I'll add these this year to mix it up some.

I'm setting up my office so I am ready to sew and I'll set up my ironing board and sewing machine (portable) in here too and watch the tutorial a number of times and sew along with her. :)

I love the Temperature Blanket idea! I have made three of the 'Spectrum' pattern so far - one for us, one for my sister and one that's going to be entered into the County Fair. :) My Sister wanted these colors. I found them obnoxious, but it actually looks great on her grey sofa. I prefer natural colors and she likes BRIGHT! Caron 'Simply Soft' is the yarn used. The pattern was on the yarn label, but I'm sure it's on line, too.

Nice! Not my colors either, but on a gray background, they would definitely be bright & cheerful.

With the exception of finishing 3 pairs of knitted fingerless mittens and gifts for my great-nieces (ages 1 & 3), I’m finished with Christmas shopping as of 15 minutes ago when I placed an online order. The mittens are the only knit/crochet items I’m doing for Christmas this year & 2 of the 3 will replace mittens I’ve previously given that are just plain worn out. Whew! Glad the “shopping” is over ... even got bags/bows for everything at the Dollar Store earlier today :-)
