Win8.x was an unmitigated disaster, a toxic dumpster fire.
everyone hated 8 because it booted into the despicable fischer-price start screen and lost the familiar program menu and shutdown shortcut.
8.1 fixed that by booting into the traditional desktop and right-click access to shutdown and many other options/features, the still ugly start screen is very useful if you just delete all the junk apps; your real programs are right there, and system applications too.
face it: 8.1 is the most advanced ms os without the w10 headaches.
