In PA, there’s over 740,000 registered hunters, with uncountable firearms; ditto Ohio, Michigan etc. Almost 15,000,000 in the 50 states. I think we outnumber the thugs.

But do we really? Most hunter estimates I've seen generally range from 11MM to 40MM people, maybe 20MM as the best guess.

Taking three percent of that (hell, make it ten percent), means you're dropping to 1.5MM at best, likely much less. Do you still think we truly outnumber the thugs?

Yea, but that's only looking at licensed hunters. It's not including the numbers that just shoot a deer off their back porch, poachers, or non-licensed hunters. I know in several states, you can hunt nuisance animals like hogs all day long with no license. You'll likely add a couple million to your number from all that.
