"At 81, I don’t seem to have any heart issues..."

Good for you. Neither do I at 76.

I had two brothers, one older, one younger die of heart issues both at age 52. My dad died of heart problems at 75.

To have a long life, it is really important to deal with your physical and emotional issues. My father died age 90. His father died age 98, and his cheerful good-natured sister died at 103. I am trying to model her. My grandfather when I asked him what he felt was important said, “long walks and plenty of water.” He also had quit eating white bread in the 1930s.

When I started studying nutrition I was able to interest my father. He followed my recommendations and completely eliminated his annual spring allergy season. When he had prostate cancer in his mid 80s, he finally quite smoking. He also had treatment by Dr. Atkins. However, despite my urging he never made any effort to deal with his anger and high blood pressure issues, nor did he follow my urging to lay out his weekly supplements all at once. I even gave him little baggies for all his supplements and two big baggies marked AM and PM to put the little baggies into. I guess his OCD made him happy to lay out his morning supplements each morning and his evening supplements each evening. One Friday (age 89) he was standing in a long line in Jersey City with groceries to carry with him to Atlantic City as he tried to collect rent from a deadbeat. I’m sure he was very angry. He had a stroke, was hospitalized, but his housemate could not bring him vitamin packets because there were none. I got there 4 days later started him on his supplements again, but he died after 3 weeks.
