***It hasn’t been this cold so early in the season there since 1976,***

The fall and winter of 1976-77 was one of the worst I can remember! Proof of THE COMING ICE AGE! The cold began with one of the coldest Thanksgivings here ever, and January, the Continental US had complete cloud cover all that month with several really bad snow storms.

Wonder if March will be as bad as the storm of March 14, 1968. Shut down this area for a week.

Article conveniently omits the fact that we had 8 inches
of snow in Pittsburgh on Halloween in 1993.

But Halloween isn’t “this date” (even though its
earlier than this date).

Lying liars and the liars who lie for them.

I think 76 was the year of the monster storm on the east coast. I remember 2-3 feet of snow and no power for a week.

I lived in the country with another guy that winter. He had a very well set up 4X4 truck. It was a terrible night and no sane people would have gone joy riding, however we’re talking two testosterone and alcohol fueled young men. Shortly after taking off we saw some taillights down a back road at a bad angle. Someone in the ditch. It ended up being someone from out of the area who had gotten hopelessly lost. He had a light jacket and was almost out of gas. We took him to his relatives house. It got to nearly ten below that night with high winds. On the way home Jim turned to me and said “Did we save that guy’s life?” I said that we probably did. It kind of shook us both up. We had no idea that it would happen when we headed out.

I spent the fall and winter of 1976-77 in Massillon, Ohio (near Canton and Akron). One day around January, we had a howling blizzard blow in one night. I got up the next morning and drove to work. Some of the road cuts were rather filled with blowing snow, but no big deal because I’d been working in the Western Mountains for a few years.

I got to work and the parking lot was empty. “Hmmm, this is odd.” Went into the building and the guard said “What are you doing here?” I replied “It’s a work day; I came to work.” He said “All work and schools are cancelled because of the blizzard.” I laughed and thought “These Ohio people are pansies. They don’t know REAL blizzards.”

Fortunately, at the policy level the proper response to global cooling is precisely the same as the response to global warming. We must increase taxes, grow government, immediately institute a complete government takeover of the economy, redistribute income on a massive scale and increase pay and benefits for government employees. This will fix the problem.

If we get a new ice age, AOC will simply rename the Green New Deal the White New Deal and carry on without missing a beat.

That was the year the Ohio River froze over. Barges were trapped by the ice.

The latter half of the 1970s was weird, at least in the East.

There were a number of Bermuda Highs that made life miserable, especially for MLB pitchers that couldn’t keep up the pace in 90F+ temps in NYC and Boston.

Then there was the Blizzard of 1978 that hit the Northeast.

And sustained cold that froze pipes, set or met records for number of days total and continuous, for being at or below freezing, at or below 0F, etc.

Oh, and solar activity was blamed for bringing down Skylab earlier than predicted due to drag from an expanded atmosphere.

January 28, 1977 was an especially crazy weather day. Blizzard conditions and extreme cold with high winds in most of the Northeast. That was also when the "wall of snow" hit Buffalo and buried the city under many feet of snow.

It was also the day Freddie Prinze the comedian killed himself. Poor guy probably thought an ice age was coming.
