Is there anything noteworthy to vote on in Pittsburgh or the surrounding counties - or is just the usual school board, mayor, etc positions?
Any controversy or heated local issues?
The only one I’m tempted to wade into is the DA race.
The long-time incumbent, a Democrat, is facing a challenger from the left for the first time in 20 years. From her platform, she sounds like one of those George Soros Restorative Justice types. I’m probably going to go in and vote for the (D), as he’s not nearly as bad.
There are a few things.
Independent candidate taking on long-time DA Steven Zappala, old-school machine Dem with a Soprano-like history.
Upstart Republican trying to take out County Controller Chelsa Wagner in the wake of her Detroit cop slapping incident.
Ballot initiative to give victims and their families more input over paroles (which is already being strangled by the courts).
In the City of Pittsburgh a BS proposal to raise property taxes and give the money to a nonprofit to take over maintenance of city parks. (Reportedly the CEO of this nonprofit earns a salary of $210K and they have a bottomless advertising budget)
