Worst thing I did was hit some kid in the face with a bag of flour. I paid dearly for that one.
Having grown up and lived in and around Detroit my entire life, I can say that things have gotten better compared to the ‘67 riots. But...as I tell my kids you need families, nice neighborhoods, nice houses, jobs, safety and infrastructure inside the city limits for it to go back to its glory days post WWII...parks...entertainment venues (parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, etc., etc.)...movie theaters (a thing of the past?), MOTOWN, contending sports teams, picnic areas, lots of shopping retailers on major avenues, nearby great paying jobs (arsenal of democracy, motor city), great schools (I subbed at many) non-corrupt government officials, etc., etc. A lot of great people have put a lot of effort and money into making Detroit a desired living space-place to raise children in the last couple of decades. Will it ever get back to its glory days? Dunno. It’s a long, long road, but it is taking baby steps in a positive direction and it is great to see articles like this.
Grew up a ways from Detroit. On the 60s it was soaping windows, lighting paper bags of dog doo on porches, peanut butter on door handles, warm Limburger cheese in milk chutes, toilet papering...
