I wouldn’t go that far - I think they are vastly overrated and far too many Boomers have an unhealthy obsession with them.
Boomers: Whine about how $334K spent on a sweater that was only ever used for one show could have gone to so many better causes.
Also Boomers: Spend $2.1 million on Beatles’ painted drumhead only used once on the Ed Sullivan Show and call it a good deal.
I’m old so I have had to listen to their screechy stuff for many years. They have sucked forever.
It’s the difference between “punk” and “metal,” generally. Nirvana’s sound was raw and repetitive while AiC was loud and complex. I was a big fan of both. Cobain’s lyrics were cryptic while Layne’s were in-your-face.
It’s tragic we lost both to the same demon, but I’m glad that Dave Grohl and Jerry Cantrell are still out there rocking.
Early Pearl Jam, I agree. Later Pearl Jam became whiny and random. I’m all for bands expanding and trying new things, but their early formulaic grunge rock was much better than the later folk rock band they become.
Oh, and Eddie Veddar is an outright communist. While I love the music, they are not friendly to conservative viewpoints, but then what band out of 1990s-era Seattle is/was?
That was about it though.
"Nevermind" was a stroke of genius. Lightning in a bottle. They mostly sucked before and after.
None of them are friendly to us, all of them are communists.
Eddie and the boys are real serious hippies, and their music seemed to drift in that direction over time. But still, they are talented.
Yeah, me too.
I also thought Layne’s voice and style of singing was spectacular.
I came to PJ late, but I think they are great. I really don’t know their newer stuff. My brother & sister in law saw them a year or two ago & said they put on an amazing concert.
I also like that Vedder fought for the West Memphis 4 who were horrifyingly railroaded for crimes they did not commit. I went to hear Damian Echols read from his book several years ago.
I do put politics on the back burner for musicians, artists, & actors I really like. Unless it’s something I can’t get past.
Thank you FRiend. I plan on listening to it this evening.
Never ceases to amaze there are so many fan boiz that worship their idols like a god. So blinded by their insane devotion, they lack a modicum of common sense.
I think I saw its twin at the Good Will store for $1.97 - only it was clean.
If the buyer was a Cobain fanatic I feel sorry for them, that so much of their treasure could be spent on adoring a celebrity. If the buyer was an investor who thinks the crazy Cobain fanatics will help the value to continue to appreciate, then more power to them.
