Anybody who asked about where I'd been got some bullsh!t about how I'd been out on the Coast for 4 years, town called Oceanside... Marine Corps? Never heard of it.
I still remember how we were smuggled back into the country at 5am, into Travis, and bused to KSFO, where there were flights to the entire country, all leaving before 7am... The terminal was empty by 7:15
I DO NOT have all kinds of warm fuzzy memories of the '70s. Somehow, this "Thank you for your service" thing is annoying...
Well....maybe better late than never. I didn’t retire from the reserves until 2011; older than dirt CWO here. I got deployed in 2003 at 55 & when we walked through the concourse, people stood & applauded.
If someone sees my Viet vet cap & says thank you, that’s kinda neat, too. I bought it in 2012 & went into Whole Foods hoping to set off some aging hippie. No such luck; just my 10% vet’s discount.
That’s now; all’s well that ends well. I too lived through the Sucky Seventies & used my GI Bill. But what appalls me now is just how old we are. Well, that war’s fifty years gone so what can I say?
Anyway, welcome back and thank you for your service. And I really mean that, bro. God bless the Marines!
They took you to a radio station?
