Interesting local history...sounds like a nice place to visit. Not to mention, by the last census, it’s 91.14% white. How’d they get away with that?
(I was kidding about Chili. I’m just genetically prone to errant words keying thoughts of food. Heck, Hispanic workers are working at the house across the street...and everyday, after listening to them, I have this desire to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I’m serious.)
Because in the 1964 race riots, my (all-white) volunteer fire Company was involved in filing in for city fire companies. We were warned by the Rochester dispatchers, "When you come in, bring every hydrant wrench you've got. You are going to need them to protect you lines from being sliced."
Have you ever seen a hydrant wrench? Its a 2-foot stainless steel pipe topped by s 2 or 3 pound brass five-sided socket.
The all-white surrounding communities were watching the riots very closely, with horror. That's why.
I have seen the lasting effects on both these communities. And apparently the Black Culture simply does not want to recognize how far back these events have set the integration of surrounding areas. This is probably also why LA and Chicago are still ghettoized.
I wonder what the background of the Gates-Chili stabbing consists of. It was reported by the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle (also a Gannett outlet like the News Journal).

The antagonist stabber was of high-melanin appearance, sadly. More resistance to integration expected, I suppose. From his Chili neighbors, to be exact.
