Years ago I saw a big die being hit by a truck as it was entering the highway. It only hit the deer’s head, but I was sure it was dead.
I was driving a little Plymouth Horizon hatchback so put the back seat down to make room for it. To keep the blood that was coming from the nose from getting on the carpet I pulled a plastic shopping bag over the head. She was so big it was all I could do to roll her in the car.
About 30 minutes later while on the interstate, I heard a snorting sound and looked in my rearview mirror. There was this white plastic shopping bag banging against the car roof as the deer was trying to stand up.
I pulled over and grabbed the tire iron I had laying in the passenger seat, beating the plastic bag until it really was dead. Scared the heck out of me.
Ended up when I butchered it, there were twin fawns in it ready to be delivered. That was why it was so heavy.
