While EMDR works, it is the equivalent of taking a painkiller to repair a broken leg.
It removes the pain but does not fix the problem creating the pain. The pain is a symptom, not the cause.
Praying Medic suggests focusing on the intense 'high octane ping' (in Pastor Henry Wright's terms) and then offering up to Jesus that emotion/feeling/memory. THEN asking Jesus to heal that wound in your soul/heart. Then thanking Jesus for said healing.
Then return to the memory of the event and check & see if there's any negative feeling left. Repeat until there's no negative high octane ping feelings left.
EMDR can result--evidently has resulted--in fairly thorough removal of the dysfunctional endless loops of pain, broken relationships etc. There are evidently a long list of studies of EMDR now available documenting that your assertion is wrong because the benefits are lasting, deep-rooted etc.
