It’s not good for customers either. The skeleton staff is never around to answer questions or help find items in the store.

Grocery stores are the only places I shop in who have employees ready and able to answer questions and find merchandise. They obviously are trained to help the customer as they do it gladly and most of the time offer to help without me asking. I can’t remember the last time I got help from any clerk in any other kind of store about merchandise or locating it..My husband hasn’t been in a store for years so he still says, “why don’t you ask a clerk” or “why don’t you call the store?” Yeah - sure - but only if I don’t mind wasting my time.
