In their 5th month since germination and temps as low as the upper 30's some nights, the garden does not look too alive yet the picker brother usually still comes out with about two dozen daily, praise the Lord.

We’re at peak colour here in Massachusetts. We lost a lot of leaves with our last storm, which was unfortunate. With our EEE problem this summer, little was done in the yard, so I have to over-winter four plants again until at least next June.
What is Eastern Equine Encephalitis?
Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is a rare but serious disease caused by a virus.
How is the EEE virus spread?
The virus that causes EEE is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. In Massachusetts, the virus is most often identified in mosquitoes found in and around freshwater, hardwood swamps. More information about different types of mosquitoes that can spread the virus can be found on the Mosquito-borne Diseases website.

I also have three basil plants, one on my kitchen window sill. Once we get a hard frost, I will be able to do some work cleaning up and pruning, but that’s about it.

Very little work, and a wonderful way to use 2-3 large peeled/sliced Granny Smith apples.
Apple Cream Torte

CRUST Cream 1 1/2 sticks of butter, 1/3 cup plus 3 tb sugar;
add 1/2 tea vanilla, 1 1/2 cup flour. Mix well. Press on bottom
and 2" up sides of greased 9" springform.
CUSTARD CREAM mix well 8 oz cr/cheese, 1/4 c sugar. Add one egg, 1/2 tsp vanilla.
ASSEMBLY Spread custard cream evenly over crust. Add combined 2-3
lge peeled/sliced Granny Smiths, 1/3 c sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon; sprinkle w/
bit cinnamon. Bake 450 deg 10 min; reset to 400 deg; bake 20-25 min.
Cool in pan. SERVE in wedges.

Scattered wild flower seeds two weeks ago, seedlings are up. Planted daffodils and hyacinth and filled most of my flower pots. Fall is a busy time for gardeners here in the greater Phoenix area. I love to crochet, will try that stitch.
