Vivid images reveal an ancient, dried-up river system on Mars that stretches 435 MILES

ESA released stunning images of an ancient river in Nirgal Vallis that once flowed on Mars

By studying the surrounding craters, the branching remains are said to be between 3.5 and 4 billion years old

Detailed images of Mars reveal an ancient river that once flowed on the red planet.

Spanning nearly 435 miles across the surface, the valley stream is named Nirgal Vallis and experts said it was shaped by flowing water and impacts.

By exploring the characteristics of the surrounding craters, the European Space Agency has estimated the system’s age to be between 3.5 and 4 billion years old.

Spanning nearly 435 miles across the surface, the valley stream is named Nirgal Vallis and experts said it was shaped by flowing water and impacts

The valley, deemed one of the largest on Mars, sits south of the planet’s equator, which experts believe was ‘shaped by a mix of flowing water and impacts: events where rocks sped inwards from space to collide with the Martian surface,’ the Europe Space Agency (ESA) shared in a press release.

The images were captured by a spacecraft’s High Resolution Stereo Camera, which the ESA has employed to map the entire surface of Mars in full color and high resolution.

The area in the picture shows the western end of the river system, where it is slowly spreading out and dissipates.

Doubt it. The period in which Mars would have been habitable was shorter than it has been on earth, and considering civilisation on earth has only existed for about 4,000 of the last 4 billion years or so it is highly unlikely civilisation had chance to develop.

I will take your word on it.

Interesting as hell to consider geography on other worlds, using this world's geology as a template. Is that acceptable, and is that applicable?

It's the only template we know. It might be applicable.

We search for 'life as we know it' mostly because we think we know what that would look like.

Same for geology...

Go to google earth and zoom in on this area of mars. This is all very well compiled very detailed satellite imaging from years of study. It is pretty obvious based on the fact almost all impact craters are a “hole in the ground”. Here or there, earth, moon, mars, etc.

Go check it out, it is pretty obvious when you zoom in closer.

With all the mentions of “The War of the Worlds”, I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the Jeff Wayne musical version. I had to buy a PAL DVD from England and convert it to NTSC on my computer many years ago, now it’s available on Youtube in 1080p. Even though its got over a million views and has been up since January 2016 I suggest you watch it while you can because you never know when (or why) Youtube is going to pull something.

The stage-play is excellent, I highly recommend it. Enjoy.

...impacts: events where rocks sped inwards from space to collide with the Martian surface,’ For 68 years, I've always wondered what planetary impacts were. Now that I know, I can go peacefully and have eternal rest.

Ricochets from those impacts send Mars' rocks to Earth's surface. Those are sought-after on deserts and on the glaciers of Antarctica.

S/B "by impacts and temporarily flowing water." Thanks MarvinStinson.

ELECTRIC EARTH, ELECTRIC MARS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AxjrRl9hAA

‘The planet Mars, and the planet Earth, share a number of critical features that are large-scale electric features. This video is designed to explore some of them, and to explore their implications.
While Mars is a relatively small planet in comparison with the Earth, at roughly half the diameter of the Earth and one-tenth of its mass, the shared features are surprisingly large on Mars, up to ten times larger in some respects.
That’s a paradox, isn’t it? It opens up some rather interesting questions for exploration.’

I’ve always been disappointed that “The Martian Chronicles”, never revealed any little green men.

Dating the river beds using assumed age of impact craters is ... guessing.

Could MArs have been a Moon around a large water world called Tiamat and when Tiamat came apart (for what reason I would only guess at using Sumerian mythology) The Moon was dashed with the debris and tilted 180 degrees, thus one hemisphere is scowered and the other cratered heavily. Some of the impact craters on our Moon might help with the issue, since debris from Tiamat would not just collect in an astoid belt but be tossed across the solar system.

Guessing is all any of us can do until soil samples are scrutinized from Mars.

Wal Thornhill nailed this years ago. There is little doubt we live in an electric Universe.

Many years ago, Wal put out a video, I think titled ‘The Electric Universe’. I have it around here someplace. I was convinced way back then that he had found the truth of the system. I watched the linked video, too. I have had a theory that a planet around which Mars orbited came apart moving Mars to an orbit around the sun where it is now. Before the entire large planet erupted, massive lightening bolts scarred the Moon that is Mars. As a student of the Bible, my imagination ties the planetary event to the Bible phrase ‘the Angels who kept not their first estate’. My imagination also connects the ‘alien visitations’ to this destroyed planet, with the Angels still quarantined to this solar system, and their clone creations as their slaves. My imagination also connects these bad angels to the end times of this planet and the return of The Conquering Messiah. There is coming a great lie ... to explain the sudden disappearance of hundreds of millions in the flash of a moment ...
