One can be truly sorry for a sad accident, but not stupid enough to place oneself at the mercy of a foreign government’s ‘justice’ system.
One can’t force a sincere apology anyway.
Of course they can.
You would be more assured that the apology was sincere if she voluntarily returned to the UK to let justice take its course, otherwise it is hollow and shows you aren’t really sorry at all if you aren’t prepared to risk a few lousy months in prison for it.
